Tooth Extraction Aftercare

After a tooth extraction, proper care helps the area heal smoothly and reduces the risk of infection or complications.

What to Expect After Treatment

  • Bleeding for a few hours (should ease with pressure and rest)

  • Some swelling and mild discomfort

  • Numbness from local anaesthetic for a few hours

📋 Do’s:

  • Apply pressure by biting down gently on gauze for 20–30 minutes

  • Rest with your head slightly elevated for the rest of the day

  • Use an ice pack on the outside of your face to reduce swelling

  • Stick to soft, cool foods for 24–48 hours

🛑 Don’ts:

  • Don’t rinse, spit, or use mouthwash for 24 hours

  • Don’t smoke or drink alcohol for at least 48 hours

  • Don’t use straws – the suction can dislodge the clot

  • Don’t touch the area with your tongue or fingers

💊 Pain Relief:

Mild discomfort is normal. You can take paracetamol or ibuprofen unless advised otherwise by your GP.
