Tooth Extraction Aftercare
After a tooth extraction, proper care helps the area heal smoothly and reduces the risk of infection or complications.
What to Expect After Treatment
-
Bleeding for a few hours (should ease with pressure and rest)
-
Some swelling and mild discomfort
-
Numbness from local anaesthetic for a few hours
📋 Do’s:
-
Apply pressure by biting down gently on gauze for 20–30 minutes
-
Rest with your head slightly elevated for the rest of the day
-
Use an ice pack on the outside of your face to reduce swelling
-
Stick to soft, cool foods for 24–48 hours
🛑 Don’ts:
-
Don’t rinse, spit, or use mouthwash for 24 hours
-
Don’t smoke or drink alcohol for at least 48 hours
-
Don’t use straws – the suction can dislodge the clot
