Inlay & Onlay Treatment

Restore decayed or damaged teeth with durable, natural-looking inlays and onlays

From £695

Inlays and onlays are custom-made in a dental laboratory to precisely restore teeth with moderate decay or damage. They offer strength, accuracy, and a seamless appearance—while preserving more of your natural tooth than a crown. Their lab-made nature means they are more durable and refined than standard fillings.

Who Is It For?

Inlays and onlays are ideal for patients who need more than a filling, but not a full dental crown. They are a conservative, long-lasting solution for restoring the structure and function of a tooth.

This treatment may be suitable if you:

  • Have a cavity that is too large for a filling but doesn't require a full crown.

  • Want to restore a cracked or worn tooth without covering the entire surface.

  • Are looking to preserve as much of your natural tooth as possible.

  • Need to replace an old or broken filling.

  • Prefer a long-lasting, aesthetically pleasing option that blends with your smile.

Inlays and onlays help to strengthen your tooth, prevent further damage, and restore a healthy, natural appearance.

How It Works

Inlays and onlays are precision-crafted restorations bonded to the chewing surface of your tooth.

  • Inlays fit within the cusps (points) of your tooth, similar to a large filling.

  • Onlays extend over one or more cusps to provide additional coverage.

Preserve more natural tooth structure than crowns.
Strengthen weakened teeth while providing a snug, secure fit.
Match your natural tooth colour using porcelain or composite materials.
Resist staining and wear for long-term reliability.
Provide a custom-made, minimally invasive solution.

What to Expect

The Treatment Process

1.   Consultation & Examination – We assess your tooth with digital imaging and determine if an inlay or onlay is the best option.

2.   Tooth Preparation – The decayed or damaged portion of the tooth is carefully removed and shaped for restoration.

3.   Digital Scan & Temporary Crown – A digital scan is taken using our intraoral scanner—no impressions needed. A temporary inlay/onlay may be placed to protect the tooth.

4.   Custom Crown Placement – Your inlay or onlay is expertly fitted, adjusted, and permanently bonded in place for strength and comfort.

How Long Does It Take?

•    Treatment usually requires two visits over 1-2 weeks.

Recovery & Aftercare

•    You may experience mild sensitivity for a few days following placement.
•    Avoid very hard or sticky foods until the restoration feels natural.
•    Keep up with regular brushing, flossing, and dental check-ups to help maintain your restoration for years to come.
